Bulls Drop 3-0 Decision At Northern Illinois

DEKALB, IL – The University at Buffalo volleyball team completed its brief two-match road trip on Saturday night with a 3-0 loss to Northern Illinois at Victor E. Court.  The loss drops UB's record to 14-10 on the season and 2-6 in the MAC.

Northern Illinois, which improved 21-2, took the contest 25-20, 26-24, 25-19 as it hit .254 opposed to UB's .164.  The Bulls had their best opportunity to take a set in the second when they overcame a 24-20 deficit to score four straight points and tie it up at 24-24.  However, the Huskies scored the final two points to take the set.
The Bulls were led by 10 kills from senior Marissa Hornbaker, who had just one error on 28 total swings.  Hornbaker also recorded UB's lone service ace.  Freshman Dana Musil added eight kills, while senior Kaya Govier had seven.  Senior Lindsey Schlegel finished with a team-high 24 assists.
 
Junior Heather Pyle led the way defensively with 14 digs, while Musil, Govier and freshman Kelly Svoboda all had six.  Senior Kristin Bignell finished with three blocks, including one solo.  Musil, Govier and junior Abby Niekamp each finished with two block assists.
 
The Bulls are back in action next week when they host Eastern Michigan on Friday night.  Match is set for 7 pm.
