Each week this season we will check in with the UB Volleyball team and preview their week ahead.
This past weekend we had 3 big wins! Binghamton went to the NCAA tournament last year and we beat them in 3. St. Johnís is also a very good program and we took them down in four. Kristin and Abby got All-Tournament team and Lindsey "Shooter" Schlegel walked away as the weekends MVP! It was a great weekend for us; we learned a lot and are definitely looking forward to this upcoming weekend at West Point! We will have four tough matches and are hoping to come through with a "W" for each one.
Nurse Heather made sure to take everyones blood pressure this past week. Coach Jenni was nervous to get hers taken, but we gave her a hair extension to calm her down. Pre-game meals have become quite eventful! We laugh a lot to try and loosen up before we get on the court. Alexa told us of her hopes to someday write her life story and we gave Todd a sweet new (very temporary) hairdo.
We hope you can make it out to our next home game vs. Canisius on Sep. 22!
Sincerely,
Kayla Govier #17
What happens when a 5-3 defensive specialist puts on the jersey of a 6-7 middle blocker?
The Bulls swept the MAC East Player of the Week honors this past weekend as junior Abby Niekamp was named Offensive Player of the Week. It was the first honor of her career. Senior Kristin Bignell picked up the fourth weekly honor of her career as the league's defensive player of the week.
The Bulls lead the Mid-American Conference in opponent hitting percentage as the opposition has hit just .084 against UB this year. UB is eighth nationally in service aces and third in the MAC in blocking.
