Marisa Hornbaker Named Academic All-MAC
BUFFALO, NY – Junior Marisa Hornbaker was named to the Mid-American Conference Academic All-MAC Team on Tuesday morning, the league announced from their offices in Cleveland, OH. This is the second straight season that Hornbaker has picked up this honor and it is her second academic award of the year.
Hornbaker, a Pharmacology & Toxicology major with a 3.966 GPA, finished the season second on the team with 309 kills, the first time in her career that she has surpassed the 300-kill mark. Hornbaker was third on the team this year with 23 service aces. Earlier this season, she was named to the ESPN The Magizine Academic All-District Second Team, the first UB player to do so since the 2005 season. Hornbaker was one of eight student-athletes to be named to the Academic All-MAC team in consecutive seasons.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
