Volleyball Adds Two More For 2010-11
BUFFALO, NY – Second-year head coach Todd Kress has announced the addition of two more players to the University at Buffalo volleyball team for the upcoming 2010-11 season. The Bulls will welcome Alexa Manuel (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie/Long Beach State), a transfer from Long Beach State with three years of eligibility left, and Dana Musil (Vancouver, Britsh Columbia/South Delta) who has played most of her volleyball overseas in the Czech Republic. The two additions now give UB six newcomers for next season.
Manuel comes to UB as one of the tallest players in the country at 6-7. She can play both the outside and middle positions and will give the Bulls versatility at the net. She did not see any action her first season at Long Beach State and redshirted this past year. In high school, Manuel was a four-year letterwinner at Eden Prairie High School where she led her team to a third-place finish in their conference. She was also a member of the USA Junior National A2 team and played club volleyball for the Northern Lights Club Team, which finished third at AAU nationals. Manuel also earned one letter in track and field, where she made sectionals in the shot put.
"With her height, Alexa will be a big presence for us on the floor," said Kress. "She can play at a number of different positions and she will definitely help us on the block. Once she gets comfortable with the speed that we run our offense, I believe she will be a huge asset to this team."
Musil comes to UB from Vancouver, British Columbia where she played her club volleyball for FVVC Vancouver. Prior to that Musil lived in the Czech Republic where she played most of her volleyball. For three seasons, Musil played in the best youth volleyball program in the Czech Republic and in her first season finished third at nationals. Her last two seasons, she helped the U17 and U19 teams both win national championships. Musil, who stands at 5-10, played outside, right side and libero for her club team. Musil has been in athletics all of her life as her father played 14 years in the National Hockey League with four different teams.
"Dana comes from an extremely athletic family and she plays volleyball at a high level," said Kress. "She can play the L2 position and her versatility in ball handling will help this team."
Manuel and Musil join a class that already includes Dani Reinert (Cincinnati, OH/Ursuline Academy), Kelly Svoboda (Cleveland, OH/Trinity), Christine Fritsche (Parma, OH/Padua) and Carissa McKenna (West Bloomfield, MI/Walled Lake Northern).
