Denise Harijanto Named MAC Scholar-Ahlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior Denise Harijanto was named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of January 18-24, after an outstanding performance against BIG EAST opponent St. John's.

 

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives. Harijanto, a senior management major with a 3.66 GPA, led UB to a 5-2 win over St. John's with victories at first singles and doubles. In doubles, she combined with Aleksandra Petrova defeat Anastasia Zavorgodini and Ece Firat, 8-1. Then in singles play, she scored a "double-bagel" win with her 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Ira Aleksova. Harijanto is 6-6 in singles and 8-5 in doubles play so far this season.

 

The Bulls will be back in action this weekend as they host Cornell at the Miller Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 pm.
