Bulls Sweep Ball State On Senior Day, 7-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team ended the home portion of its schedule in style on Saturday afternoon as they swept Ball State, 7-0, at the Miller Tennis Center. UB took all three matches in doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets.

 

The Bulls started things early in doubles action as Anna Subenkovaand Tamara Markovic won at second doubles, defeating Dena Boulieris and Paola Rodriguez, 8-3. The Bulls clinched the doubles point with a win at third doubles as Diana Popescu and Diana Toia defeated Sarah Hebble and Lauren Pickrel, 8-2. The number one team of Denise Harijanto and Aleksandra Petrova defeated Katherine Rist and Kylee Johnson, 8-3.


UB continued its dominance in singles with six victories in straight sets. Harijanto, who was playing in her final home match, swept her opponent in first singles, defeating Hayley Hall, 6-0, 6-0. The Bulls then clinched the match as Markovic and Petrova won their matches within seconds of each other. Markovic won at sixth singles defeating Pickrel, 6-0, 6-1, while Petrova defeated Boulieris at second singles, 6-1, 6-1. Toia and Subenkova, seniors who were also playing in their final home match extended UB's lead to 6-0 with straight set wins. Toia won at fourth singles as she capped off a perfect 4-0 week with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Hebble. Subenkova played at fifth singles where she defeated Rist, 6-4, 6-1. Capping off the sweep for the Bulls was Popescu, who won at third singles, defeating Johnson, 7-5, 6-4. UB honored its seniors following the match and in addition to Harijanto, Toia and Subenkova, also honored senior Caitlin Turner. 

 

The Bulls head on the road for their final regular season weekend as they head to Western Michigan on Friday afternoon and Bowling Green on Saturday. MAC Championships get underway at Western Michigan the following week.
