Bulls Drop Season Finale To Kent State

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team dropped their final game of the 2009 season to Kent State this afternoon, 2-0.

The first half was evenly matched, with both teams getting chances to score. Senior Jennifer Mihok had a shot blocked early in the match, and Stephanie Velez and Aubrey Stahl each added to the first half shot tally. Kent State took a one-goal lead late in the first half with a goal by Rachel Dennis at the 42:20 mark. The goal came as Dennis was fed a pass from the right side and booted it past UB goalkeeper Amy Coron.

The Buffalo offense was quiet in the second half, as Lindsey Bailey and Velez saw the only two UB shots of the half. The Bulls played aggressive, collecting four yellow cards in the game, three of which came in the second half, but could not get on the board. Kent State scored an insurance goal off a penalty kick in the 82nd minute of play to seal the 2-0 decision.

"I thought this game was very telling of our season. We came out and played some good soccer, but we have to find ways to get on the other end of the result," said head coach Michael Thomas.

Kent State had the advantage in shots 18-7, with Coron making eight saves throughout the match, bringing her season save total to 122. The 122 saves this season puts her seventh on UB's single-season saves list. She also holds the sixth spot, having tallied 128 saves in 2007. The senior finishes her career as a Bull with a four-year save total of 449, which puts her at the top of UB's all-time career saves list.

The Bulls finish the 2009 season just out of MAC postseason contention, finishing with a conference record of 2-8-1 (3-15-1 overall).
