CAMDEN, NJ – The University at Buffalo lightweight four boat won the bronze medal at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships in Camden, NJ on Saturday morning. It was a great result for a UB team making its first ever appearance at the IRAs.
Comprised of Katherine Evely (coxswain), Cornelia Willis, Julia Hahn, Katie Coffin and Margaret Lawn, the Bulls finished with a time of 7:25.44. Wisconsin won the race with a time of 7:14.63 and Stanford took the silver with a time of 7:19.46.
"We had a good start and stayed in it with Stanford for a while, but as Wisconsin and Stanford broke away, we were able to maintain and row our race and keep pushing away from Radcliffe," lightweight coach Kerri Kanaley said.
Buffalo won the bronze by finishing ahead of Radcliffe (7:34.68), Princeton (7:47.02) and Georgetown (8:06.41).
"This is a very special group of student-athletes who have worked very hard for this and to be able to have a showing like this among the best in the nation, I couldn't be more proud," Kanaley said.
