Bulls Continue Dominant Performance in Day Two of Harvey Cup

BUFFALO, NY - A day after securing the Harvey Cup with relative ease, the University at Buffalo rowing team took on Dayton on Saturday morning on Tonawanda Creek. The Bulls swept all four races from the Flyers.

"It was nice to have the three universities here to compete with us," head coach Rudy Wieler said. "We won the Harvey Cup again and that's exciting. We raced well yesterday and in the 2V8 and V8 and we came out on top. About four weeks ago Dayton had beaten us in the 2V8 race by about .14 seconds so for us to come out and knock them out today was exciting because that's what you're always looking for progress and I think this regatta indicated that. I'm really proud of the kids, they all did a great job."

In the first race against Dayton, the UB varsity four boat of Kara Buchheit, Veronika Kwinecki, Rachel Cuthbert, Kylie Lewis and Bethany Cross finished with a time of 8:20.27. Dayton finished with a time of 8:36.90.

The Bulls' novice four boat finished with a time of 8:49.73 - four seconds ahead of Dayton.

In the varsity eight race, UB boat, consisting of Alison Sheehan, Rosa Kemp, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Kaitlyn Koscielniak, Shannon David, Sydney Gilchrist and Brittany Ronald finished with a time of 6:54.02 - 10 seconds ahead of Dayton.

In the second varsity eight race, the Bulls edged Dayton by less than two seconds, finishing with a time of 7:08.34. The second varsity eight boat was made up of Emily Glasgow, Danielle Carlino, Sarah Gallagher, Deborah Garth, Hayley Franco, Justine Bottorff, Francisca Strange-Sepulveda, Brittany Davidson and Elizabeth Murphy.

Colgate defeted Eastern Michigan in the other races of the day.

"What it (The Harvey Cup) means is, more than the races, it's about remembering Nan (Harvey). I tell these kids every year who she was so there's a history attached," Wieler said. "I asked the kids in the boat if any of them had won a Harvey Cup, and none of them had, so for them that was a big deal. Whether you win by a lot or a little, the fact of the matter is that the Harvey Cup is ingrained in the history of program."
