Bulls Battle Elements at the Head of the Genesee
ROCHESTER, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing team battled the elements as well as other top teams at the Head of the Genesee on Saturday afternoon. The day featured strong winds and rain making for difficult conditions.
Three of Buffalo's boats competed in the Open 8 race. The Varsity 8 A boat of Alison Sheenan, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Rosa Kemp, Shannon David, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Brittany Ronald, Sydney Gilchrist and Danielle Carlino finished fifth with a time of 17:42.42. The Bulls actually finished with a time of 17:12.42 which would have been third, but they incurred a 30-second penalty.
The Lightweight Boat of Katherine Evely, Margaret Lawn, Hannah Blackington, Briana Reinecke, Julia Hahn, Haley Bryk, Cornelia Willis, Katie Coffin and Jessica Ashbaugh finished sixth with a time of 18:02.83.
The Bulls' Varsity 8 B boat of Emily Glasgow, Kylie Lewis, Rachel Cuthbert, Veronika Kwinecki, Bethany Cross, Gabrielle Ormond, Hayley Franco, Stephanie Iannacchino and Francisca Strange-Sepulveda finished seventh with a time of 18:11.77.
Buffalo fared well in the novice race as the A Boat finished first with a time of 19:00.03. The Novice A boat was made up of Katie Boniello, Melissa Ward, Jordyn Phillips, Alyssa Gabel, Bridget Whalen, Jessica Levy, McKenzie Kern, Jean Kang and Bailey Gillies.
The Novice B finished third in the race with a time of 19:36.52. Emily Niemel, Emily Daigle, Alexa Shoiock, Justine Bottorff, Amber Gurman, Holly Ross, Sara Fox, Emily Valentine and Kayleigh Bemisderfer.
