Bulls Sweep Grand Valley in Michigan
BELLEVILLE, MI – The University at Buffalo rowing team had a strong showing at a weather-shortened event hosted by the University of Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls went up against Grand Valley State in a pair of races and were victorious in both events.
A week after Grand Valley defeated Buffalo for the Knecht Cup, the Bulls returned the favor. The First Varsity Eight finished with a time 7:15.34, ahead of Grand Valley which finished with a time of 7:23.11. What was even more impressive about the win was the Bulls did so with a younger lineup. Senior Lindsay DiCosimo was forced to sit out the race with a pulled muscle. She was replaced by freshman Brittany Davidson. In addition, freshman Susannah Sage Green switched to the port side for the first time this season.
Michigan, Oklahoma and Indiana faced off in the second race just 10 minutes later. Buffalo's time of 7:15.34 was faster than Indiana's time of 7:15.66 and just four seconds behind 14th-ranked Michigan.
In the second Varsity Eight race, Buffalo finished with a time of 7:19.45, ahead of Grand Valley which finished with a time of 7:27.17. Sarah Gallagher replaced Davidson in that boat for the Bulls.
Buffalo's Lightweight Eight also competed on Saturday against MIT and Simmons Openweight in Boston. Using a borrowed boat and oars, the Bulls finished third with a time of 7:19.77. Simmons Open won the race with a time of 7:07.73 and MIT finished second with a time of 7:12.96.
The Lightweights will remain in Boston for a race against Radcliffe on Sunday. The rest of the team will return to Buffalo and prep for next week's Colonial Athletic Association Championships next weekend.
