Bulls Sweep First Day At Dad Vail Regatta
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing program is well on its way to its third straight Dad Vail Regatta team championship as the Bulls finished in first place in all five of its races on Friday afternoon. UB now has five boats in tomorrow's semifinals and one boat already in tomorrow's finals.
UB's Varsity Four boat of coxswain Mollie Riester, Megan Bayley,Sydney Gilchrist, Sarah Gallagher and Rachel Cuthbert finished in 7:20.484 to win its heat by nearly 13 seconds over Marquette. Next up for the Bulls on the day was the Varsity Eight race, which the Bulls also finished first in. UB clocked in at 6:48.480, defeating fellow CAA member Delaware by over five seconds.
The Second Varsity Eight boat found itself in first place finishing at 7:08.272. The boat of coxswain Kate Evely, Rosa Kemp, Shannon David, Lindsay DiCosimo, Alexandra Condon,Dakota Smith, Ashley Hanhurst, Danielle Carlino and Jacklyn Postulka defeated Connecticut by 17 seconds.
UB's Novice program also saw success on Friday with a pair of victories. UB's Novice Four boat clocked in at 8:03.088 to defeat Northwestern by over nine seconds. Buffalo's Novice Eight boat had the biggest win on the day for the Bulls as the boat of coxswain Kara Buchheit, Francisca Strange, Melissa James, Katelynn Hentz, Lauren Benz, Deborah Garth, Bethany Cross, Kylie Lewis and Elizabth Murphy finished in 7:36.919, defeating second-place Vermont by nearly 20 seconds.
All five of these boats will now be in tomorrow's semifinal, which will take place in the morning. UB's Lightweight Eight boat, which did not compete on Friday, will also be in action tomorrow as the Dad Vail Regatta concludes. Due to a weather forecast of high sustained and gusting winds tomorrow afternoon, Saturday's Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta Schedule has been modified. There will be compressed Semi Final start times and earlier Final start times.
