Mark Lewandowski Named MAC Wrestler of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - For the first time in his career, junior Mark Lewandowski was named the Mid-American Conference's Wrestler of the Week. The Depew, NY native earned the honor thanks to a dominating 5-0 weekend at the Virginia Duals that has been a microcosm of his standout season.

Wrestling at 165 pounds, Lewandowski recorded two technical falls and a major decision among his five victories, which included four shutout victories and only four total points allowed. He scored 49 total match points, the third-most of any wrestler among the 14 teams at the meet. The Bulls won three of their five matches and improved upon last season's finish with a seventh-place slot. Mark now has a 28-6 overall record (13-3 in dual meets). Buffalo's overall record is 5-11 this season, 0-1 in the MAC.

Lewandowski will look to earn another career first this coming weekend when he looks for his first state championship as the Bulls head to Ithaca, NY for the 2012 New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championship. The tournament will run Jan. 21-22 and will feature 18 schools from across the state.
