Cannon and Smith Named to NWCA All-Academic Team
The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams and the NWCA Individual All-Academic wrestling team. Following successful seasons both on the mat and in the classroom, junior John-Martin Cannon and redshirt junior Kevin Smith were named to the 2010-11 NWCA All-Academic Division I Team.

Wrestling Signs Three More Standouts for 2011-12
he Buffalo wrestling coaching staff has announced three more outstanding talents to the 2011-12 recruiting class, further making the argument that the incoming freshman class will be among the best in all of Division I. Four-time New York state champion Arik Robinson, 2011 California state runner-up Justin Lozano and two-time Michigan champion Justin Heiserman signed on to become a Bull, adding depth and filling important needs for the team.

Bulls Ink Highly Touted Recruit Blake Roulo
The Buffalo Bulls wrestling team continues to build its program upward, both literally and figuratively. Adding to the excitement of a $400,000 renovation to its facilities, the UB staff announced the signing of Blake Roulo of Matoaca High School in Petersburg, VA. He is a 149-pound prospect who recently became just the second wrestler ever to win four NHSCA titles and is also ranked as the top senior in Virginia out of all weight classes.

Coach Jim Beichner Named MAC Wrestling Coach of the Year
Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, including a record six national tournament qualifiers, head wrestling coach Jim Beichner was named the Mid American Conference coach of the year, as announced today by the conference. The honor comes in addition to Beichner being named NYS Division I Coach of the Year twice (1996, 2004), East Coast Wrestling Association Coach of the Year and the Amateur Wrestling News Rookie Coach of the Year during his 16 seasons at Buffalo.

Lewandowski Finishes Top 12 at NCAA Tournament
The Buffalo Bulls wrestling team bowed out on day two of the NCAA national tournament Friday, with Mark Lewandowski posting the best finish of the group of six, coming achingly close to becoming the first All-American since Kyle Cerminara in 2004. Lewandowski won three matches to place in the top 12 overall at 157 pounds.

Four Bulls Advance to Second Day of NCAA Tournament
17,289 fans were on-hand for the first two sessions of the 81st annual NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia all day Thursday, and Buffalo had a solid showing, with five qualifiers still alive in the consolation rounds and only one eliminated thus far. As a team, Buffalo won four matches overall and after the first day is in 33rd place overall with 8.0 points.

Two Bulls Earn Academic All-MAC Honors
After leading the team with terrific junior seasons, Kevin Smith and John-Martin Cannon were named to the 10-player Academic All-MAC team. The conference announced the selections today, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Kevin Smith Earns At-Large Bid to NCAA Tournament
Redshirt Junior Kevin Smith became the sixth Buffalo Bulls wrestler to earn a trip to the NCAA tournament this season after earning an at-large bid during the selection process held Wednesday night. The draw was for the 50 possible wrestlers who did not earn an automatic qualification. The six Buffalo national qualifiers were the most since the Bulls joined the Mid American Conference.

Records Fall as Bulls Finish Third at MAC Championships
The Buffalo Bulls won a conference- and program-best four individual titles and finished third only to champion Central Michigan and Kent State at the Mid American Conference Championship. The third-place finish is tied for the best in program history. The team will also send at least five wrestlers to the NCAA tournament, another program best. John-Martin Cannon also became the first Bull wrestler to ever win Outstanding Wrestler, capping a record-shattering day for the program.

Second Annual âTAKEDOWN CANCERâ Event Raises over $28,000
On Sunday February 20th the Buffalo Bulls wrestling team defeated Northern Illinois by a score of 22-9 in the Division of Athletics second annual âTAKEDOWN CANCERâ fundraiser in memory of Jeffrey D. Parker, former student and member of the Bulls wrestling team. Parker lost his battle with cancer on May 22, 2010. In his honor the event raised over $28,000 to be donated to the Jeff Parker Foundation and Carlyâs Club of Western New York.

The Buffalo wrestling team ended its regular season on a high note Sunday afternoon, beating Mid American Conference rival Northern Illinois, 22-9. It was also the second annual Takedown Cancer fundraiser, and the wrestling program helped raise over $28,000 for the Jeff Park Foundation and Carly's Club of Western New York.

Buffalo Bulldozes Edinboro, 18-16
Keyed by a fast start, the Buffalo wrestling team avenged an earlier loss to Edinboro with an 18-16 win Sunday evening. The win was Buffalo's first win against the Fighting Scots since 1982 and just the fourth win in the all-time series between the two schools.

The Mid-American Conference wrestling coaches announced the first January weight class individual rankings in conjunction with the league office today. The rankings will be released on the second Tuesday of each month throughout the season, with one additional ranking system (two total) in January and February. Jimmy Hamel: A Dozen Reasons to Respect Hard Work
Jimmy Hamel walked on to the University at Buffalo campus with his father and older brother in tow. A Massachusetts state champion in 2006, Hamel was asked to fill the shoes of outgoing All-American Kyle Cerminara. While at the time it might have seemed to be a daunting task, Hamel now will leave the program sitting side-by-side with Cerminara in the Buffalo record book and his consistent blue-collar work ethic has helped lead the team as much as any takedown or pin.

Four Bulls Capture Individual Titles at UB Open
Out of the ten weight divisions offered at the UB Open Sunday morning, the Buffalo squad placed wrestlers in the finals in eight of them as the Bulls capped off a strong opening week of the season. The team split the eight championship matches, with four titles and four second-place results, battling over 200 wrestlers from some of the top schools in Divisions I, II and III.
