Meili Carpenter Sits In Sixth At U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials
SEATTLE, WA- Following the preliminary and semifinal rounds, UB school-record holder Meili Carpenter sits in sixth place at the U.S. Olympic Diving Team Trials in the 3m Springboard competition. Carpenter has advanced to Saturday's final where the top two finishers will represent the United States at the 2012 Olympics in London.
In the opening round on Tuesday, Carpenter had a five-dive total of 286.50 to finish in sixth place. Her best dive was her third, where she scored a 67.50, the third highest total in that round. Carpenter was one of 18 divers to move on to the semifinals, which were held later that night.
She remained in sixth place following the semifinals, finishing with a score of 576.00. Her scores in her second and fifth dives were both in the top 10 for the round. The top 12 finishers moved on to the finals.
The 3m Springboard finals will take place on Saturday, June 23 as part of a session with the Men's 10m platform competition. The session begins at 1:00 pm pacific time.
