UB Swim Teams Finish Third and Fifth in Mid-Major Polls

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished near the top in CollegeSwimming.com's final Mid-Major Division I Top 25 Rankings, released today. The UB women ranked third while the men took the fifth spot in the rankings, the highest spots attained by either team in the polls.

Buoyed by their best-ever finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships, the UB women ranked third with 261.62 points to finish behind MAC rival Ohio (263.15) and James Madison (262.08). The Bulls vaulted 17 spots from the previous poll where they were ranked 20th. 

In the men's poll, the Bulls ranked fifth with 257.39 points moving up from the 10th spot in the last poll. UB narrowly finished second to Eastern Michigan at the MAC Men's Championships earlier this month but finished one spot ahead of the Eagles as EMU collected 253.89 points to rank sixth. Princeton led the men's rankings with 270.83 points.

Now in its 10th year, the Mid-Major Rankings serve to provide an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or the Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules. 

This is the final of four rankings during the season by CollegeSwimming.com. Ranking dates included mid-November, prior to invitational meets, mid-December, following invitational meets, early-February, prior to the conference championship meets and a final ranking in early March.

"This poll exemplifies all the hard work our swimmers and divers have put into this year," head coach Andy Bashor said. "There are many great mid-major teams and to be third for the women and fifth for the men means a lot to our program and how far we have come over the past couple of years."
