Bulls Nipped By Rockets in Women's League Opener
The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team opened Mid-American Conference action on Saturday afternoon with a 153-147 loss to visiting Toledo at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Bulls are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the MAC. The Bulls won seven of the 16 events on the program on Saturday as the meet stayed close throughout with both teams holding the lead at one time or another.
Kuras Rolls to Freestyle Wins
Sophomore Brittney Kuras won a pair of freestyle races, lowering her season-best mark in both events. She won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.97, shaving two seconds off her previous top mark. Kuras also took the 100-yard freestyle in 50.84, cutting two-tenths of a second from the mark she set last week against Pittsburgh. She was also part of UB's winning 400-yard freestyle relay squad with Taylor Steffl, Karly Moore and Mallory Morrell.
Giachino Posts Season-Bests to Sweep Diving Events
Also scoring a pair of wins for the Bulls against the Rockets was sophomore diver Ava Giachino. Giachino improved on her season-best marks victories on the one-meter springboard with 269.10 points and the three-meter competition with 259.80 points for her six-dive routines.
Women Travel to Ohio for Saturday Meet
The UB women's team will continue their MAC schedule on Saturday with a meet at Ohio University. The Bobcats are off to a 2-0 start after posting MAC wins over Bowling Green (168-131) and Eastern Michigan (151-149) over the weekend. In the win over Eastern Michigan, Ohio scored first- and second-place finishes in the meet's final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, to take the win.
Men's Team Scrimmages at Cornell
On Friday afternoon the UB men won eight of 14 races in a scrimmage against Cornell. There was no team scoring in the scrimmage and official times were not kept. Winning individual events for the Bulls were Matt Hogan in the 200-yard freestyle, Matt Schwippert in the 100-yard backstroke, Mike Dugan in the 50-yard freestyle, Phil Aronica in the 200-yard backstroke Cory Zorsch in the 100-yard butterfly and Josh Meints in the 200-yard individual medley. UB also took both relay races with Aronica, Hogan, Schwippert and Dugan taking the 200-yard medley relay and Zorsch, Aronica, Dugan and Jared Heine winning the 200-yard freestyle relay.
