Women's Swim Team Earns National Recognition
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team has been named to the NCAA's Academic Performance Program Public Recognition list. The NCAA announced its list this afternoon.
The Bulls were one of 19 NCAA Division I women's swimming teams to be included on the list. UB was the only school from the Mid-American Conference and one of four public universities to be named.
"I am excited for our women's team earning this honor again this year," head coach Andy Bashor said. "This award reflects all the hard work the student athletes have put into their studies and all the help they receive through our athletic academic services and university services."
UB's women's swimming program has never lost a point in the history of APR. The program was also publicly recognized by the NCAA as a top performer nationally in 2009.
Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams who demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced at a later date. That announcement also will include immediate and historical penalties for low-performing teams.
