Bulls Roll Over Bowling Green

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team picked up their seventh consecutive win, defeating MAC rival Bowling Green tonight at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium by a score of 154-114. The Bulls now stand at 8-2 (4-2 MAC). Senior diver Meili Carpenter broke her own school record in the three-meter event, finishing with a score of 346.88. Carpenter broke the school record in the one-meter event yesterday at St. Bonaventure as well.


The Bulls built their lead early, winning six of the first seven individual events. Other individual winners throughout the meet included Alie Schirmers in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in a season-best 1:06.08, Koltz in the 50 freestyle (24.04), Simmons in the 100 freestyle (51.33) and Sam Palma in the 100 butterfly (57.85).The Bulls started the meet strong, as the 200 medley relay of Jessica BallardBrynn MareckiJessie Koltz and Caroline Simmons took away first-place points with a time of 1:46.44. Jordan Deren won a pair of events for the Bulls, including the first individual event of the night, taking the 1,650 freestyle in a time of 17:30.96. Deren swept the distance events, later winning the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:08.51. Freshman Katelyn Pratt-Collins took care of the backstroke events for Buffalo, winning the 100 backstroke in 58.91, as well as the 200 backstroke in a season-best 2:06.09. Ballard also won two events on the night, swimming to a season-best time of 1:53.33 in the 200 freestyle, and winning the 400 IM in a team-best 4:29.13.


Carpenter went uncontested, but was able to keep her record breaking weekend going as she finished the one-meter event with a score of 341.47 and the three-meter event with a score of 346.88. Her score on the three-meter board betters her own school record set earlier in the season. Carpenter broke the school record in the one-meter event last night at St. Bonaventure, where she scored 344.10. 

 

The men's team will finish up their season next Friday, February 5 with a 4:00 pm road meet at Penn State. The women's team will host one last home meet next Saturday, February 6 as they close out the regular season with a meet against Toledo at 1:00 pm at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium.
