UB Swimming and Diving Hosts WNY Invite

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving team started their season by hosting the Western New York Invite this afternoon at UB's Alumni Arena Natatorium. There was no team scoring, but Binghamton, Canisius, Niagara and St. Bonaventure all competed in the event.

The women won twelve out of fifteen events with Brynn Mareckileading the way, winning three events for Buffalo. Marecki won the 200 IM (2:11.71), 100 breaststroke (1:07.03) and 200 breaststroke (2:24.15). Jordan Deren and Caitlin Reilly each won a pair of events, with Deren taking first in the 500 freestyle (5:08.47) and 1000 freestyle (10:34.95) and Reilly winning the 200 backstroke (2:10.36) and 100 backstroke (1:00.18). 

 

In the afternoon, freshman Caroline Simmons opened the session with an impressive first-place finish in the 100 freestyle (52.16) and Kim Dale closed out the day with a win in the 400 IM (4:40.52). Along with Simmons, the women's team debuted seven freshmen. Dani AdankLogan MasonEmma Miller , Karly MooreKatelyn Pratt-Collins and Alex Swies all had their first meet as a UB Bull.


On the men's side, Zach Ruske picked up a win in the 200 backstroke (1:54.36), while freshman Josh Meints won the 100 breaststroke (1:01.50). Meints was followed close behind by fellow freshmanChristian Muller, who took second place in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:01.86. Simon Proudfoot added a first-place finish, swimming to a time of 47.63 in the 100 freestyle. In addition to Meints and Muller, the Bulls debuted seven other newcomers, including Paul GarmanMatt HoganZach RiceMatt Schwippert,Ryan SmrekarCurtis Williams and Cory Zorsch

 

The Bulls will have their first dual meet of the season on Friday, October 23 when they host Duquesne. The meet is set for 4:00 pm at Alumni Arena Natatorium.
