Bulls Wrap Up The Regular Season This Weekend
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo softball team heads to Michigan this weekend for its final four regular season games. The Bulls, who are currently ninth in the conference, are looking to make the eight-team MAC Tournament.
The Bulls, who are 11-32 and 6-10 in the MAC, are led by junior Kristin Waldron, who is hitting .309 on the season, including .429 in conference play. Waldron is one of just two players to start every game this year and she also leads the team in at bats, hits, doubles and runs batted in. Freshman Holly Luciano is second on the team as she is batting .292, including .375 in conference action. Luciano leads the team in runs scored and is second in hits and stolen bases.
In the circle, UB is led by freshman Tori Speckman, who has a 3.83 ERA. Speckman has a 4-4 record in conference play with a 3.41 ERA and 36 strikeouts.
Eastern Michigan enters the weekend with a 23-14 record and a 9-7 mark in conference play. The Eagles have two players batting over .400 led by McKenna Russ, who is hitting .439. Stacie Skodinski is hitting .404 and leads the team in doubles and home runs.
EMU has three pitchers with ERA's under 3.00, led by Jaclyn Caro who has a 2.35 ERA. Jenna Ignowski has a 12-5 record with a 2.75 ERA and a team-high 107 strikeouts.
The Bulls will move on over the weekend to Central Michigan for a two-game series. CMU currently has a 26-18 record and a 10-8 mark in the MAC. Molly Coldren, who is batting .411 and has 13 home runs, leads the Chippewas. Brittini Merchant, who is hitting .338, leads the team in at bats, hits and doubles.
CMU has two pitchers with at least 10 wins led by Kara Dornbos, who is 11-10 with a 2.26 ERA. Kari Seddon is 10-6 with a 2.47 ERA and a team-high 108 strikeouts.
Heading into the final weekend of play, only four teams have clinched spots in the upcoming conference tournament. Both Buffalo and Akron are currently out, but both have the opportunity to make the tournament with strong weekends. Just two teams have officially been eliminated from tournament play.
