Starakiewicz, Hove Earn Weekly MAC Awards
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's tennis players Wojciech Starakiewicz and Vusa Hove have been honored by the Mid-American Conference with weekly awards the conference announced from its Cleveland headquarters on Wednesday. Starakiewicz was selected as the MAC's Men's Scholar Athlete of the Week while Hove earned the league's Men's Tennis Player of the Week award.
Starakiewicz, a senior communication major with a 3.859 grade point average, went 4-0 claiming two singles and two doubles victories in UB's wins over St. Bonaventure and Marist last week helping to extend the Bulls' winning streak to four matches. Playing third singles, Starakiewicz did not allow more than three games against him in any set in his wins over SBU's Elliot Fanshel (6-3, 6-2) and Marist's Matt Himmelsbach (6-2, 6-3), taking both contests in straight sets. Starakiewicz teamed with Travis Zappia at second doubles in wins over the Bonnies and Red Foxes.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
