BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Jordie Kindervater has been named as the Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The awards were announced by the ITA, the governing body for collegiate tennis, on Thursday afternoon. Kindervater is one of 12 assistant coaches honored across the country.
Kindervater, in his second year as assistant to UB head coach Lee Nickell, was instrumental in helping the Bulls to the 2010 Mid-American Conference regular season title as well as late season run in 2011 that helped the team earn the number three seed in the most recent league championships.
As assistant coach for the Bulls, Kindervater is responsible for pre-match preparations as well as on-court coaching. The St. John's, Newfoundland native also handles recruiting for the Bulls and was instrumental in the recent signing of Canadian national player Damien David.
"Coach Kindervater has done so much for this program, and our success is due to his hard work and dedication to UB," said Nickell. "This is a very prestigious award and I am extremely proud that Jordie has received this honor."
The Bulls finished the 2011 season with a 12-8 overall record and 3-2 mark in MAC play. The Bulls reached the semifinal round of the 2011 MAC Championships.
