Starakiewicz, Hove Earn All-MAC Men's Tennis Honors

BUFFALO, NY – Two University at Buffalo men's tennis players were named to the All-Mid-American Conference teams announced at the league banquet Wednesday night prior to Thursday's opening round of the league tournament.

Junior Wojciech Starakiewicz was named to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive season while sophomore Vusa Hove earned recognition to the All-MAC Second Team.

Starakiewicz, playing both first singles and doubles for the Bulls, finished the regular season with a 14-10 singles mark and 13-10 in doubles play. Heading into the MAC Tournament, he has won three of his last four singles matches. In the fall, Starakiewicz won the A-1 Singles title at the Cornell Invitational and opened the dual meet season with four straight wins.

Hove has a team-high 20 wins from his second singles slot and has won four consecutive matches, including a pair of third-set wins, to help the Bulls on their current five-match winning streak. In just a season and a half, his 33 career singles wins rank among UB's all-time top 20. He also tops the Bulls with 18 doubles victories and when paired with George Tibil, comprise UB's number three doubles combination which is 6-0. Additionally, Hove was named the league's Player of the Week for his performances last weekend in victories over Ball State and Northern Illinois.

The Bulls (11-7, 3-2 MAC) open the MAC Championships on Thursday against sixth-seeded Chicago State at 10:00 am. The winner moves to the semifinal round against second-seeded Toledo.
