Custers Reaches Dartmouth Invite Final

HANOVER, NH – University at Buffalo sophomore Kristof Custersadvanced to the Sunday's championship final in his flight as quarterfinal and semifinal play at the Dartmouth Invitational concluded late Saturday.

 

Custers, playing in Flight D scored two wins in his two singles matches. He opened play with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Spencer Lunghino of Middlebury. Custers moved into Sunday's final with a "double bagel" 6-0, 6-0 win over Tony Sheng of Amherst in the semifinal round. Custers will meet Dartmouth's Chris Ho in Sunday's final.

 

Three other Bulls scored first round wins before being eliminated in Saturday's semifinals. In Flight A, Kirill Kolomyts defeated Nick Lebedoff of Williams, 6-3, 7-6 in his opener. Kolomyts fell to Dartmouth's Curtis Roby, 6-2, 6-2, in the semifinals. George Tibil (Bucharest, Romania/Institut des Dames de Marie)  downed Matt Himmelsbach of Marist in a super-tiebreaker, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8, in his Flight C opener. Tibil lost to Jeffrey Friedman of Dartmouth in another super-tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 on Saturday.

 

Mitch Zenaty was also involved in a pair of super-tiebreakers in Flight E. Zenaty downed Amherst's Scott London, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8, in the opener. On Saturday, he fell to Marcus VonNordheim of Marist, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.

 

Championship matches begin at 9:00 am on Sunday at Dartmouth's Boss Tennis Center.
