Men's Tennis Falls at Florida Atlantic, 5-2
BOCA RATON, FL – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team opened its three-match swing in the Sunshine State with a 5-2 loss to Sun Belt Conference member Florida Atlantic on Sunday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The Bulls scored the opening doubles point and picked up a singles win from George Tibil.
The Bulls (3-3) scored the opening doubles point as the number three team of Vusa Hove and Mitch Zenaty won a 9-7 tiebreaker over Matthew Braunworth and Ervin Gaaribovic. UB's number one team ofWojciech Starakiewicz and Kirill Kolomtys, ranked 10th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, also won their match by an 8-2 margin.
UB's lone singles win came at number four as Tibil scored a straight sets win over Derek Madon, 6-4, 6-3. Three of the singles matches went to third sets with the Owls (5-3) taking all three.
Head coach Lee Nickell stated after the match, "I was pleased with the way we played doubles today and again we started off very strong in singles only to lose in very close matches. We are going to continue to work on finishing matches when we have a lead and are looking forward to playing Southern Illinois Tuesday."
The Bulls face the Salukis on Tuesday at 10:00 am in Boca Raton.
