Bulls Tame Salukis, 6-1
BOCA RATON, FL – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team defeated Missouri Valley Conference member Southern Illinois, 6-1, as the Bulls continue their Florida competitions during spring break.
The Bulls (4-3) picked up the opening doubles point for the fifth time in their seven matches this season as the number one and three combinations scored victories. At number one, Wojciech Starakiewiczand Kirill Kolomyts, ranked 10th in the Northeast Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated Falk De Beenhouwer and Orhan Spahic by an 8-6 count. The number three team of Vusa Hoveand Mitch Zenaty remained undefeated as they downed Anton Leonenko and Mpilo Migogo, 8-2.
UB won five of the six singles matches, including four in straight sets while splitting a pair of third-set super-tiebreakers. Starakiewicz, ranked third in the Northeast Region, rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win over Brandon Florez at number one. Kolomyts, George Tibil and Hove also picked up straight set wins. Marcelo Mazzetto needed a super-tiebreaker to down Migogo, 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9), at second singles.
The Bulls conclude their Florida excursion on Wednesday afternoon against Troy in Boca Raton.
