Bulls Go Overtime In Week's Matches

The University at Buffalo men's soccer team played a pair of contests last week with both matches going into extra time. The Bulls tied Robert Morris, 1-1, on Wednesday. UB then rebounded with a 1-0 sudden death win at Detroit on Sunday.

Woods Nets Another Game Winner

In UB's contest at Detroit on Sunday, senior Nate Woods scored the game-winner with 3:05 remaining in the second overtime. It was the second goal of the season for Woods, which leads the team, and the second game-winning marker for the forward. Woods was credited with the game-winner in the August 26 opener at St. Bonaventure. Woods saw little action in his first season with the Bulls in 2010 after playing two years at Louisburg (NC) JC. He scored one goal in six matches in 2010 and has now doubled his output in just three contests in 2011.

Johnson Lost For the Season

The Bulls were dealt a severe blow last Wednesday when senior forward Anthony Johnson suffered a broken leg in UB's match at Robert Morris. Johnson had played 78 minutes in the contest against the Colonials when the injury occurred. Johnson, who was in his third year with the Bulls after playing his freshman season at Buffalo State, was UB's second leading returning scorer with two assists in 18 contests in 2010. He had an assist in the Bulls' win at St. Bonaventure on August 26.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Sunday's match at Detroit was a rematch of the Titans' 1-0 win in Buffalo on October 26, 2010. The story of the match was a heavy rain with gusty winds that played havoc on both teams as the ball was blown around in the rough weather. Rain fell again in Detroit in Sunday's match with Nate Woods scoring the winning overtime goal just as the rain was ending. A 60 percent chance of rain is in the forecast for UB's home opener against NJIT on Wednesday. 

Busy Week Includes Home Opener

The Bulls will play three matches in the span of five days this coming week. UB starts on Wednesday, Sept. 7 with the home opener against NJIT (2-1). This will be the first ever meeting between the Bulls and Highlanders. UB then travels to the Capital District for contests at Siena (2-2) on Friday and Albany (1-2) on Sunday.
