Shuttleworth Wins MLS Best Save of Week Award

BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo men's soccer goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, now a member of Major League Soccer's New England Revolution, earned the league's Save of the Week Award in an online poll conducted by the league.

In New England's 3-0 loss against Chivas USA, Shuttleworth came up with a pair of saves in the 71^st minute of the match.

Shuttleworth stopped Alejandro Moreno's shot from point-blank range and then immediately had to lunge to his right to stop the rebound shot by Jorge Flores.

The back-to-back stops earned nearly forty percent of the vote.

Shuttleworth is in his third season with the Revolution and is 1-2-0 this season in goal. In his three matches, he has collected nine saves (3.0 per game) and holds a 2.00 goals against average. New England is 2-3-3 overall in 2011 and stand in sixth place in the Eastern Conference of MLS.

At Buffalo, Shuttleworth was a 2008 second-team All-Mid-American Conference and was selected to the All-Tournament squad in the 2007 season. Shuttleworth put together a stellar regular season in 2008 with a 0.64 goals against average in 18 matches while recording eight individual shutouts. He anchored a UB defense that posted seven straight shutouts and a streak of 680 consecutive scoreless minutes, which was the longest active streak in the nation when it was halted.
