Bulls Fall in Home Finale
The University at Buffalo men's soccer team fell out of a second-place tie and into fourth place by the end of the weekend as the Bulls lost to Western Michigan, 2-1, at UB Stadium to complete the regular season. The Bulls (7-9-1, 3-3-0 MAC) will be seeded fourth for this week's Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Wilson Nets His First
Playing in his final match at home, senior Rich Wilson scored his first goal of the season as the Bulls attempted to close the margin against Western Michigan. Wilson scored his first of 2010 and seventh of his career with 21:12 left in the match from five yards in front of the net as he headed in Casey Derkacz's long free kick. With the assist, Derkacz, also playing in his final match at UB Stadium, tied for the team lead with three.
Bring on the Zips
UB's loss to Western Michigan, coupled with Bowling Green's 2-1 victory at Florida Atlantic on Saturday night, dropped the Bulls into the fourth seed for this week's MAC Championships. Both the Bulls and Falcons tied with a 3-3-0 league record, however Bowling Green took the number three seed based on their win over the Bulls on October 9. The Bulls will face top seed and national number one squad Akron at 5:00 pm on Friday. Western Michigan meets Bowling Green in the other semifinal.
