Bulls Fall to Top-Ranked Akron

The University at Buffalo men's soccer team fell Saturday night to the top-ranked Akron Zips, 4-0, at Lee-Jackson Field. With the loss, the Bulls fall to 5-7-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Mid-American Conference.

 

Unwin Leads on Scoring Chart

Junior forward Mike Unwin holds the top spot on UB's scoring list this season. Unwin had the team's first multiple point game of the season at Cleveland State on October 11 with a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over the Vikings. Unwin has three goals and a team-best three assists in 2010 for nine points. Juha Kaartoluoma also has a three goals this season, a career high for the senior forward.

 

Astudillo Comments on Akron Match

Head coach John Astudillo remarked following the Akron match. "We are a bit disappointed not to have gotten a better result at Akron." said Astudillo. "We played well in spurts but not well enough to win. Credit goes Akron on a strong match." 

 

Nothing Like Home Cooking

The Akron match marked the final time that the Bulls will play away from UB Stadium for the remainder of the regular season. UB hosts MAC foe Northern Illinois on Friday, October 22 at 7:30 pm in the first of four home contests which also includes a non-league matchup with Detroit and league games with Florida Atlantic and Western Michigan. "NIU presents a different team and style of play," stated Astudillo. "NIU's aggressive and fast paced game, coupled with set play advantage will be a challenge for the Bulls. NIU is our focus now and we expect to work on our preparation this week." The Huskies are 0-3-0 in MAC play, dropping 1-0 decisions to Hartwick, Akron and Florida Atlantic. Overall NIU is 6-5-2.
