Bulls Split Matches in Ohio
The University at Buffalo men's soccer team went 1-1 over the week with a Mid-American Conference loss at Bowling Green, 2-0, before returning to the win column with a 2-0 non-conference victory at Cleveland State on Columbus Day. The Bulls now stand with a 5-6-1 record and are 1-1-0 in MAC play, tied for third with Hartwick.
Bulls Get Offense on Track at Cleveland State
The Bulls scored a 2-0 win at Cleveland State on Monday with junior forward Mike Unwin contributing to both goals. Unwin earned an assist on Juha Kaartoluoma's third goal of the season as the Bulls took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Unwin then shut the door on any comeback by the Vikings with a breakaway goal with 1:46 left in the match. The goal by Unwin tied Kaartoluoma for the team lead with three. Unwin, an All-MAC selection in 2009, leads the Bulls with nine points on three goals and a team-high three assists.
Aubrey Scores Second Shutout of Career
Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Aubrey got his first action since September 12 and the month-long rest didn't seem to affect his play. Aubrey earned his second shutout in three career starts with the 2-0 win over the Vikings. He only needed one save to earn the victory, making the save in the final minutes of the match with the Bulls holding a 1-0 lead. Aubrey lowered his goals against average to 0.67 with the win.
Bring On the Zips
UB returns to Mid-American Conference play to face top-ranked and league leader Akron on Saturday, October 16 at 7:30 pm. The Zips (9-0-1, 3-0-0 MAC) scored a 1-0 victory at Northern Illinois on Saturday to increase their lead in the league. Akron travels to Penn State, a common opponent between the Bulls and Zips this season, for a Wednesday match. Akron defeated the Bulls, 1-0, in last season's meet on October 23, 2009 at UB Stadium.
