BOWLING GREEN, OH – The University at Buffalo men's soccer fell to Bowling Green, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in a Mid-American Conference match to begin a two-match stretch in the Buckeye State.
Bowling Green (4-4-2, 1-2-0 MAC) got the scoring started early as Zach Lemke scored on a header in the fifth minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Bulls were victimized by an own goal. In the 49th minute, a long free kick by Thomas McLean was headed into the UB net by a Bulls defender for a 2-0 Bowling Green edge. The Bulls had benefited from an own goal in their 1-0 MAC win at Hartwick on September 28.
Nick Fetterman made two saves in 90 minutes of action as the Bulls (4-6-1, 1-1-0 MAC) outshot the Falcons, 12-9, in the contest. After the teams had three shots each in the first half, UB outshot Bowling Green 9-6 in the second half but was unable to find the back of the net.
Offensively, Mike Unwin had three shots for UB. Kieron Gradwell and Maksym Kowal each had a pair of shots for the Bulls.
UB travels to Cleveland State for a non-conference tilt on Monday. Kickoff is at 4:00 pm.
