Bulls Pick Up Pair of Weekend Wins
Returning to Western New York was all the University at Buffalo men's soccer team needed to get into the win column as the Bulls scored a pair of weekend victories to even their season record at 2-2. UB blanked crosstown rival Canisius, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex then knocked off Robert Morris at UB Stadium on Sunday, 3-2.
Storan Collects Game Winner Against Griffs
His first colllegiate goal will be memorable one for freshman Ian Storan. Storan scored the lone goal in UB's 1-0 win over Canisius to give the Bulls their first victory of the season. The Limerick, Ireland native scored off a direct kick at 19:50 after Canisius defender Philip Smithers was assessed a yellow card.
Aubrey Also Makes Memorable Debut
After sitting out the first two games of the season, freshman goalkeeper Ryan Aubrey made his debut against Canisius a memorable one. Aubrey, who brings extensive Texas high school and club credentials made four saves in 90 minutes of action against the Griffs to preserve the 1-0 shutout. On Sunday, Aubrey held Robert Morris off the scoreboard for the first 78 minutes of the match before the Colonials struck for a pair of late penalty kicks. However, Aubrey and the rest of the UB defense was able to regroup and hold on to the one-goal margin to win.
Bulls and Bonnies Renew Rivalry
The Bulls host St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:30 pm at UB Stadium in their next action. The teams have played 31 times previously with the Bulls holding a 19-9-3 advantage over their rivals from Olean. St. Bonaventure defeated the Bulls, 2-1, in last season's meeting as Steffan Thoresen scored UB's goal.
Going Way Out West
Following Tuesday's St. Bonaventure contest, the Bulls will travel to Albuquerque, NM for this weekend's Lobo Classic. The Bulls will face the host New Mexico Lobos (2-1-1) on Friday night at 9:00 pm (ET). UB then takes on the ninth-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (0-2-2) on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 pm (ET) start. This will be the first time that the Bulls have met either team in men's soccer.
