BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo junior forward Mike Unwin has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team. The selections were announced by the league office in Cleveland, OH on Friday.
After transferring from North Iowa Community College, Unwin
finished the 2009 season as the Bulls' leader in goals (9) and
points (19) in his first season with the team. The junior appeared
in each of the Bulls' 17 contests, starting on the frontline in 16
contests. As an offensive threat for Buffalo, he led the team in
shots (46).
At the start of the season, Unwin was selected to the Marquette Invitational All-Tournament Team as he scored a pair of goals in the Bulls' 4-0 victory over host Marquette.
In the MAC, Unwin was second in shots behind this year's conference Player of the Year Teal Bunbury of Akron. The forward finished his first year in the MAC as the league's fourth leading goal scorer. He also finished in a three-way tie for fourth place as the league's leading point scorer. In terms of his production per game, Unwin finished fourth in shots (2.71) and goals (0.53) and fifth in points (1.12).
