Sean Smiley is in his second year as an administrative assistant on Witherspoon’s staff. 
 
A pivotal player in the Bulls Men’s Basketball success from 2005-2010, Smiley ranks fifth in UB history in three-point field goals made and led Bulls individual game scoring numerous times during his career. Known for his clutch shooting, high energy and intense defense, Smiley marked his senior year in 2009-10 with buzzer-beater performances in wins against Bowling Green University and St. Peter’s College and fueled UB’s second-half rally in the 2010 MAC quarterfinal game versus Miami with four treys in less than 17 minutes.
 
A Bulls tri-captain in 2008-09, Smiley was a member of UB’s 2009 MAC regular season championship team and the 2008 Outrigger Hotel Rainbow Classic championship team and was named to the 2007 Sun Bowl All-Tournament Team.
 
In 2009, Smiley was selected for the All-MAC Academic Team as well as Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honors Society. His five seasons with the Bulls included a medical red-shirt year in which he battled back from ACL/MCL and thumb ligament surgeries in 2006. 
 
Smiley earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a minor in media studies at UB. Prior to re-joining the Bulls, he worked for a year as a national sales representative for a Fortune 500 company in Rochester, NY.
