Bulls Open MAC Play Tonight at Ohio
ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will open Mid-American Conference play tonight when it visits the Convocation Center to play Ohio. It is a rematch of the 2012 MAC Tournament Semifinal matchup in which the Bobcats defeated the Bulls en route to winning the MAC Championship.
At 5-9, the Bulls enter conference play with a losing record for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Bulls have won three of their last five games with their two losses coming at Washington State and Tulsa.
Buffalo is led by Javon McCrea who is averaging 15.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. The junior forward has three double-doubles on the season, including a 22-point, 11-rebound performance in UB's last outing at Tulsa.
Will Regan has also been putting up solid numbers, averaging 13.3 points and 5.9 rebounds over the last nine games. The sophomore forward leads the MAC in three-point shooting percentage, as he has knocked down 18-of-30 three-pointers on the season (.600).
Ohio is coming off a convincing 94-57 win over rival Marshall on Saturday, as D.J. Cooper set a school record with 17 assists and five different Bobcats scored in double figures in the game.
For the season, Ohio is 9-5 with all five of its losses coming in a rough month of December. The Bobcats are the defending conference champions and return all five starters from a team that made the Sweet 16 last season.
Wednesday's game will be televised on SportsTime Ohio as well as ESPN3. As always fans can tune into WECK 1230 AM/102.9 FM and listen to Josh Whetzel call the action. Tipoff is slated for 7:04 pm.
