Offense Looks Sharp in Spring's Second Scrimmage

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team held its second scrimmage of the spring at UB Stadium on Saturday morning and the offense looked sharp.

"I thought the offense did a really nice job capitalizing on some scoring opportunities," head coach Jeff Quinn said. "I thought both Alex Zordich and Joe Licata did a nice job of throwing completions and putting the ball where either the receiver or no one was going to get it."

On the first drive of the scrimmage, Alex Zordich led the Bulls 65 yards for a touchdown. The junior signal caller completed 5-of-7 passes on the drive. All five of his passes were to Devon Hughes. Hughes stood out as UB's best receiver in the scrimmage making 12 catches.

One of Hughes' catches was a 12-yard touchdown strike from Joe Licata who also looked sharp in the scrimmage.  Licata also connected on a 25-yard touchdown pass to Cordero Dixon on a perfectly timed fade pattern.

A key to the success of the quarterbacks was the play of the offensive lines as the quarterbacks were given plenty of time to throw.

"I really liked where we were up front with our offensive line," Quinn said. "They did a nice job of protecting."

Jaleel Verser had the defensive highlight of the day as he tipped a pass to himself for an interception and returned it 50 yards.

"I saw a lot of good open field tackles," Quinn said.  "I thought our defensive backs did a good job breaking on the ball."

Quinn has been please with the progression of his team so far this spring.

"Overall, I think the last two weeks have been solid," Quinn said. "We'll just go back and evaluate our personnel and try to come out of this seeing where we are with our starters and our key backups."

Spring practice continues on Tuesday leading up to the Blue White Scrimmage on April 14.
