Bulls Back Home to Host UCF on Saturday Night
BUFFALO, NY – The UB football team returns home to face UCF on Saturday night at UB Stadium. The Bulls are 1-1 and are coming off a 34-6 loss at Baylor last Saturday. Head Coach Jeff Quinn wants his team to learn from the Baylor game, but ultimately forget about the loss and focus on the tough test that lies ahead in UCF.
"Our theme this week is about perseverance, resolve, resiliency," Quinn said. "That is how we are moving our football program forward.
Despite the loss, there were a number of positives that came out of the trip to Texas. Buffalo found its running game as it rushed for 162 yards against the Bears. Freshman Branden Oliver (71) and sophomore Jeffvon Gill (57) combined to rush for 128 yards. Gill earned his 57 yards on only three carries.
Despite a couple of breakdowns that resulted in long touchdowns, the defense played well. Domonic Cook did a little bit of everything with four tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Davonte Shannon also had a solid performance with 11 tackles (10 solo). He became just the third player in school history to eclipse 200 career solo tackles.
UCF is 1-1 and is coming off a 28-21 loss to North Carolina State last Saturday. Jonathan Davis leads the Knights with 139 rushing yards and a touchdown.
"[UCF] is a run-oriented offense," Quinn said. "It's going to take our defensive personnel to understand that we are transitioning out of the spread, no-huddle to a huddle, run-oriented offense."
The game kicks off at 7:00 pm on Saturday night. Tickets are still available at the UB Ticket Office or by calling 1-877-UB-THERE. Fans can catch the game live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet or on the radio at WECK 1230 AM in Buffalo or WHTK 1280 AM and 107.3 FM in Rochester.
