Defense Shines at Football Practice

BUFFALO, NY - Thursday was the eighth preseason practice under new head football coach Jeff Quinn at a hot and humid UB Stadium. As the players have started to wear pads, more can be evaluated by the coaching staff.

Early in camp, Quinn has really been encouraged by the defense. "We put our kids in the third down situation and saw our defense really emerge, flying around, showing enthusiasm on the sideline, and produce and that's what we look for from them," Quinn said.

Senior defensive back Domonic Cook spoke highly of his fellow defensive players and had high goals for his unit. "I think we can be one of the best defenses in the nation," Cook said. "Doing what we do daily; getting in our playbook, being aggressive to the ball, giving ourselves a chance to make a play."

Switching to the other side of the ball, Quinn said the transition of putting his offensive system in play has had its ups and downs. "We have had our moments. There are times that we look really, really solid and there are times where our lack of concentration and understanding of what we want to do has taken a little bit of toll," Quinn said. "We have put a lot on their plates, but I feel very good about our coaches on the offensive side that they are going to get these things cleaned up and put this thing back on track."

The Bulls are at it again on Friday at UB Stadium as they continue to prepare for the season opener on September 2 against Rhode Island.
