Jason Kanzler Earns Second Career Gold Glove
Outfielder Jason Kanzler has set a new national standard for defensive excellence, earning his second Rawlings Gold Glove Award earlier this month. Honoring the nine best and brightest defensive players in Division I, this is the second straight year that the Buffalo centerfielder has been honored. He now becomes the very first player in the seven-year history of the award to be recognized twice.

Kanzler and Burke Named to All-Mideast Region Teams
The honors keep coming in for the Buffalo baseball team, as a pair of Bulls were recognized as members of the 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Mideast Regional Honors. Jason Kanzler made the first team, while junior Mike Burke earned second team votes. In a season full of program firsts, this now marks the first time in program history that multiple players have made the team in back-to-back seasons, following up on Matt Pollock and Tom Murphy’s spot on the 2012 teams.

Jason Kanzler Drafted by the Minnesota Twins
After a two-season stretch that was among the best in program history, senior centerfielder Jason Kanzler was selected in the 20th round of the Major League Baseball draft Saturday afternoon, with the 590th overall pick. This marks the first time since the reinstatement of the program that the team saw players drafted in back-to-back drafts, following Tom Murphy's selection in the 2012 draft.

Ben Hartz and Tyler Mautner Named Freshmen All-Americans
Reliever Ben Hartz and third baseman/designated hitter Tyler Mautner were honored as two of Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, the newspaper announced this afternoon. They become the fifth and sixth UB newcomers to make postseason Freshmen All-American teams, joining Bobby Pizzuto (2007), Mike Folli (2005), and Tyler Balentine and Bryan Sanchez (2000).

UB Student-Athletes Earn a Combined 3.014 Grade Point Average For Spring Semester
With the 2012-13 academic year coming to a close, the University at Buffalo student-athletes carried on a budding, but important, tradition after cumulating a 3.014 grade point average in the Spring semester. This marked the first time the Athletic Department has surpassed a 3.0 GPA in three straight semesters.

Dream Season Comes to a Close for Buffalo Baseball
In a season in which so many milestones were reached, it had to end at some point for Buffalo baseball. After scoring 22 runs in the first two games of the Mid-American Conference tournament, the offense wasn't able to capitalize on its chances and lost 4-1 to Toledo (24-32) in an elimination game. The Bulls finish the season with a 33-24 overall record.

Heavy rain in the area throughout the day has put a halt to the final three games scheduled for day two of the Mid-American Conference tournament. With the postponements, the Bulls will now play just a single game tomorrow, which will now be later on in the evening as the final scheduled game of day three.

Bulls Blowout Northern Illinois to Stave Off Elimination
A handful of team and individual records were bested Thursday morning, as the Bulls (33-23) blew out Northern Illinois (22-34) with a season-high 13 runs in a 13-0 win. Mike Burke threw his third shutout of the season to tie the all-time record, and Jason Kanzler drove in three runs to claim the single-season RBI record to highlight a big day all around for UB.

Toledo Wins Shootout in Tournament Opener
The Bulls dropped the opening game of its 2013 Mid-American Conference tournament Wednesday afternoon, losing 12-10 to Toledo. In its final home games of the 2013 season, the Buffalo baseball team staged a game-one 6-3 comeback win, but were unable to keep up in game two against St. Bonaventure, losing 10-2 to earn an afternoon split. With the win, Buffalo moved to 30-21 overall this season, making it just the second time the team has reached 30 wins in the 55-year history of the program.

Kanzler Honored for Gold Glove Award

#10 Baseball Makes Splash in First MAC Tournament
The team needed all 52 games of the regular season, but the Buffalo Bulls baseball team made the Mid-American Conference’s postseason tournament for the first time ever in 2012, beating Bowling Green 8-5 on May 19 to earn the eighth and final spot in the double elimination tournament. Not satisfied with just getting there, the Bulls also upset #4 seed Ohio 6-5 and also sent home #5 seed Western Michigan 10-8 all within a 24-hour span.

Tom Murphy Drafted in the Third Round of MLB Draft
Capping off a career that saw him leave his name all over the Buffalo baseball record books, junior catcher Tom Murphy was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the third round of the 2012 Major League Baseball first-year player draft, 105 overall. He is the highest of the three players taken in the draft since the program's reinstatement, and in the program's history, he was the earliest drafted player since Peter Grimm went 56 overall in 1983.

Led by four separate Bulls recording three or more hits, the baseball team won its fourth straight game Wednesday evening, beating the UMBC Retrievers 16-8. Jon Mestas had a career-high four hits, while Matt Pollock came a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. The Bulls as a team hit for the cycle in the fifth and sixth innings to run away with the win.

Led by a strong outing from freshman reliever Anthony Magovney, the Buffalo baseball team overcame an early lead from the Towson Tigers and held them off late, winning 8-6 Tuesday afternoon. Matt Pollock hit the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning and senior Kevin Crumb nailed down the team's first save of the season. The win was the team's fifth in the past six games, and it was the first home loss of the season for Towson (6-8).
