Mike Burke Named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - Junior Mike Burke was named the Mid-American Conference East Division's Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. It was the second straight weekly honor for the division-leading Bulls, and the first weekly honor for Burke in his career.

Burke was handed the ball for two quality starts during the week, and leading the team to a pair of wins. On Monday, he held UMES to just two hits through the first five innings of the game. While the Hawks were able to plate a trio of runs in the sixth to take a brief 3-2 lead, that would be the only blip on an otherwise solid day for Burke. He struck out five and walked just one batter in seven total innings, with four of UMES' six total hits against him coming all in the sixth.

On Sunday he took the ball against Longwood, pitching the team to a 3-2 win. The offense was able to have a relative off day thanks to Burke's performance. The junior righty struck out six and walked only one batter en route to his second straight quality start. He now lowers his season earned run average to 3.66 and is 2-0. For the game, Burke pitched to four or few batters in six of his seven total innings.

The team returns to action on Friday for a three-game weekend series at Memphis.
