Alex Baldock and Matt Pollock Named to Academic All-MAC Team

BUFFALO, NY - Juniors Alex Baldock and Matt Pollock were named to the Mid-American Conference's Academic team Thursday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. The duo's honor mark the first time under head coach Ron Torgalski that the Bulls had multiple players make the list, which this season consisted of 21 players.

This is Pollock's first honor, and it comes after a banner year on the field. The outfielder was in contention for the conference's player of the year honors after leading the team in multi-hit games (with 25), batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.638), on-base percentage (.447), runs scored (56) and hits (79). He set single-game program records with most at-bats in a game (with eight) and most triples in a game (with two). He also now owns the program's single season record in total bases (with 141). He made the All-MAC First Team and the All-Mideast Region team.

Baldock is the program's first-ever multiple time winner, after making the team in 2011. Despite missing more than a month due to injury, he rallied to make the MAC All-Tournament team after batting .375 in the tournament and provide the Bulls with a walk-off win. Fifteen of his 31 hits in 2012 went for extra bases, including 12 doubles.

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
