Matt Pollock Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week
BUFFALO, NY - Matt Pollock, junior outfielder for the UB baseball team, was named the Mid-American Conference's Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for the period ending Mar. 11. The conference award is his first ever.
Pollock batted .600 (6 of 10) in UB's three games for the week. In UB's 27-13 win over Long Island, Pollock - batting in the leadoff position - went 3-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBI. In UB's 8-1 win at Coppin State, Pollock was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a solo home run. He came into the Canisius game as a pinch hitter, rapping a double and scoring a run in his lone appearance.
After starting the season batting only .125 (3-24), the Sagamore Hills, OH native has collected a hit in seven straight games to raise his season average to .333. During this hitting streak, he is batting .536 (15-28) with three doubles, a triple and two home runs. He has been especially dominant over the past four games, with 10 hits and 12 RBI during the team's current four-game win streak.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
