MOREHEAD, KY - Despite holding at least a four run lead in both of its games, the Buffalo baseball team was snakebitten Saturday afternoon, losing both games of a doubleheader to Morehead State by way of a walk off. The team lost game one 8-7, and game two 12-11 in ten innings. Alex Baldock led all UB batters with a combined line of four hits and five runs batted in over the two games.

In game one, the host Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first before the Bulls scored seven unanswered runs over the next five innings. Baldock led off the second inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly from Mike Burke. Jon Mestas added a solo home run in the same inning. In the third, the team had a two-out rally to score four runs on four hits. Dan Scahill and Tom Murphy strung together singles before Baldock cleared the bases with a home  run over the center field wall. Burke added a solo home run in the next at bat to keep the team rolling.

In the fifth, Jason Kanzler led off with a home run, ending the team's scoring for the day and chasing Morehead starter Aaron Goe. The Eagle bullpen proved to be stout, however, limiting the Bulls to just two hits for the final three innings of the game. With the UB offense being held at bay, MSU stormed back with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to tie it up. The two remained knotted up at seven before the home team put a runner on in the bottom of the ninth and scored him on a double that banged off the center field wall for the walk-off win. River McWilliams took the loss after throwing 2.2 innings of relief.

Game two was even more wild than the first, with at least one run scored by at least one of the teams for the first seven innings. The Bulls scored seven straight runs in the second, third and fourth innings to earn an 8-1 lead before the Eagles could respond. Baldock's RBI triple in the first inning started the scoring, and the team added back-to-back solo shots in the second from Burke and Scahill, with Scahill adding an RBI single in the very next inning. In the fourth inning, an error and five Buffalo hits led to a quartet of runs, with Murphy, Baldock, Tyler Mautner and Burke driving in a run each.

The Bulls snuck in an unearned run in the fifth and sixth, with Kanzler scoring Scahill and Baldock drawing a walk to score Kanzler three batters later. That would wrap up the scoring for Buffalo, as Morehead's bullpen again was effective and limited UB to just one baserunner in the final three innings while the offense again preyed on the Buffalo pitching staff.

Game two starter Kevin Hughes was effective in his first five innings of work, striking out seven while allowing four runs on eight hits. After Corey Paige came in to relive him to start the sixth inning, the Eagles woke up and tore the cover off the ball and had eight hits and seven runs in the sixth and seventh to tie up the game at 11. As the second game of the doubleheader, the game was only slated to go seven innings, but thanks to six runs in the bottom of the seventh by Morehead State, the game ended up going nine innings and beyond.

With the Bulls being set down in order in the ninth and tenth, Kevin Crumb came into the tenth inning and could not record an out after three solid innings of relief. After a lead-off single, a botched hit to first base put runners on first and second and the Eagles beat out a bunt single to load up the bases. Crumb then walked a batter with no where to put him, giving the team its third straight walk-off loss, a stretch that goes back to the final game of the Kentucky series.

Still in seach for its first win of the season, Buffalo (0-5) will play a pair again tomorrow against Morehead State (6-5). Game one of the doubleheader will start at 1 pm, with Jeff Thompson projected to get the start.
