Murphy Leads NECBL to Victory Over Team USA
BOSTON, MA - Playing for the New England Collegiate Baseball team at Fenway Park, Buffalo catcher Tom Murphy hit a solo home run over the Green Monster to help lead his squad to an upset victory over the United States Collegiate National team Monday afternoon, 3-2 in an exhibition game. In the second inning, Murphy broke a scoreless tie with a shot over the historic left field wall.
"That's probably one of the biggest dreams any kid can have is hit one over the Green Monster," he said. "So I'm thankful for everything, the opportunity to play here. A lot of great players here today, great feeling."
Playing every day for the Holyoke Blue Sox, Murphy currently leads his team with nine runs batted in to go with his .283 batting average through 11 games.
The NECBL is a twelve-team league that plays in all six New England states and recruits players attending U.S colleges from New England, the other forty-four States and foreign countries. The league starts its summer season in early June and plays an eight week, 42 game schedule. Buffalo fans can track Tom's summer league stats at www.necbl.com.
