BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore first baseman Alex Baldock was named to the 2011 All-Academic team for the Mid-American Conference Monday afternoon. The honor was the first of his career, and he became the second player to make the academic team under the helm of head coach Ron Torgalski. A total of 23 student-athletes were named to the team.
After stepping in right away as a freshman, Baldock was locked and loaded in year two, improving on every major statistical category. One of only two players to appear in all 52 games, Baldock batted .320 with a team-leading 18 doubles and four home runs. His doubles total was the third most by any player in program history. He also etched his name into the record books for some spectacular single-game efforts. Against North Carolina Central, Baldock went 5-7 for the game, with his hit total and at bats both tying the all time mark. The very next day, it was patience that put him in the record books, as he drew four walks to tie another record.
Baldock joins player of the year Tom Murphy and a strong core of players who will return to the diamond in 2012. Ten position players who started in at least 35 games will be returning.
