Bulls Rally to Victory over Morehead State, 6-4

MOREHEAD, KY - The University at Buffalo baseball team captured its first victory of the season, defeating Morehead State, 6-4, in game one of a four-game weekend series on Friday afternoon at Allen Field.

The Bulls opened the game as senior Brad Agustin crushed a leadoff home run to deep center to give the Bulls' a 1-0 first inning lead.

In the bottom half of the first, the Eagles tied the contest at 1-1 off a Bulls' throwing error.

Morehead State took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second off a pair of solo shots.

Trailing by two, the Bulls erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth. Senior Brad Cochrane stepped into his new role of designated hitter with an RBI single to center to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-2. With the bases loaded, senior Rob Lawler dropped a single left center, driving in a pair of runs to take a 4-3 lead. Freshman Tom Murphy revisited left center, giving the Bulls a pair of insurance runs off a two RBI double to take a 6-3 lead.

In 8.0 innings of work, Chaz Mye (1-1) turned in a strong performance on the mound, striking out four batters while allowing only two earned runs and eight total hits.

Murphy went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and three walks. Continuing his strong showing at the plate this season, senior Jacob Rosenbeck went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks.

The Bulls will face the Eagles in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6 at Allen Field with the first pitch set for 1:00 pm.
