Bulls Defeat Morehead State, 13-9, to Take Weekend Series

MOREHEAD, KY - The University at Buffalo baseball team captured its first series of the 2010 season, defeating Morehead State, 13-9 in 10 innings, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Allen Field.

In the top of the second, the Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Senior Jacob Rosenbeck crushed a solo shot to right field, marking the second time in the series that a Bull hit a leadoff home run. Freshman Alex Baldock extended the Bulls' lead with an RBI double down the left field line followed by a two-run single to right field by senior Brad Agustin to take a 4-0 lead.

The Eagles' trimmed back the Bulls' lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third off a two-run home run.

Holding the lead, the Bulls crushed a pair of long balls to extend their lead to 7-2. With a runner on first, Agustin drilled a two RBI home run to right field followed by a solo shot to deep right-center by junior David Neff for his first career home run.

In the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings, Morehead State captured a 9-8 lead off seven total runs.

For the third time in the series, a Bull hit a leadoff home run to begin the inning. Freshman Tom Murphy recorded his first career home run in the top of the eighth off a solo shot, tying the contest at 9-9.

The Bulls scored four runs in the top of the tenth en route to winning their first series of the 2010 season. Seniors Adam Skonieczki and Brad Cochrane came through for the Bulls. Skonieczki gave the Bulls an 11-9 lead off a two-run double down the right field line with Cochrane ensuring the victory off a two RBI single through the left side.

Reliever Brian Pullyblank (2-1) recorded the Bulls' victory in 4.0 innings of work. The senior struck out three batters while allowing only a pair of hits.

Agustin went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBIs and a pair of walks. Neff posted a pair of hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks as Baldock recorded a pair of hits, two runs and an RBI.

The Bulls (3-4) will remain on the road as they travel to Georgetown College in Kentucky on March 9 and 10 for a two-game series.
