Spring 2013 - American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class Information
All ARC lifeguarding classes are open to faculty/staff, students and the general public. All participants who successfully complete the ARC course will earn the following American Red Cross Certifications: Lifeguarding, CPR/AED and First Aid. Once the participant earns these certifications they will be able to apply for lifeguarding jobs.
Please note: the aquatics director and lifeguard instructors are not required to pass anyone who does not attend all of the classes and pass each each and every written and skills test. Certifications must be earned and all skills must be performed according to the criteria set forth by the American Red Cross.

Sessions:
Session # 3B: Saturday & Sundays, 10:00am-2:00 pm: May 4, 5, 18, 19, 25, 26, June 2, 2013
Session # 3C: Saturday & Sundays, 10:00am-2:00 pm: June 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 2013
Minimum Age Requirement: All participants must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of the desired session.
Class Fee: $200.00 per student (includes instruction, class materials and pocket mask
Pre-test: All students must pass the required pre-test in order to continue. The pre-test consists of a 300-yard swim continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, treading water for 2 minutes using legs only and completing a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds (retriving the swimming brick).
Certifications earned: Certifications will be issued approximately two weeks after completing your lifeguard training class. All certifications will be issued via the email address listed on your registration form.
Recertification questions should be emailed to the program director. Please be advised that there are no more lifeguarding challenges offered due to the fact that the American Red Cross has changed its program and every guard must learn the new standards.

The University at Buffalo Aquatics Program had developed a blended learning opportunity for current American Red Cross (ARC) Certified Lifeguards to earn the NEW two year lifeguarding certification from the ARC.
To successfully complete and earn your NEW two year Lifeguarding certification you must complete the following:
Final in-water skills scenarios:
The purpose of the final in-water skills scenarios is to ensure that participants have achieved a level of competency and retention of the skills. Participants will have to demonstrate competency in the following areas of lifeguarding:
Class Date: Saturday June 1, 2013 @ CLARK HALL – SOUTH CAMPUS POOL – 10 am until 2 pm
Saturday June 15, 2013 @ CLRAK HALL – SOUTH CAMPUS POOL – 10 am until 2 pm
No more recertification dates will added, class size will be limited.
Class rosters spots will be based upon completed registrations. Completed registrations means that you completed the required paperwork and paid the course fee.
Materials Needed: All guards must bring provide their own pocket mask.
Fee: $100.00 per guard
